Livelihood Entrepreneurship Development Programme for Narikuravas- Gov of Tamilnadu & NABARD

In General, Narikuravas are involved in street sales of beads accessories. But for making these accessories there is a huge gap in availability of raw materials. Also these are very low valued products out of which they earn very low income. On the other hand, Kanchipuram is a place where there is huge availability of silk thread (left overs) from handloom weaving unit

  • Menstrual hygiene : Based on convergence to address welfare aspects of narikuravas, Sanitation first in collaboration with READS has conducted an Awareness session on menstrual hygiene to narikuravar and free hygiene Kit was provided to all beneficiaries

Manidhi Women Farmer Producer Company for Women- NABARD

Manidhi Women Farmer Producer Company LTD supported by NABARD is an organization that has been formed to address the economically disadvantaged women farmers working for Milk based products.Women constitute about 70 percent of the labor force in livestock farming. The ownership of livestock is more evenly distributed among landless laborers and marginal farmers, henceforth the progress of this sector will result in a more balanced development of the rural economy. Only credit and training to enhance the socio-economic status has comparatively lesser effect than collectivization of Producers especially small and marginal farmers so as to form an effective alliance to collectively address many challenges of cattle farming such as improved access to investment, technology, inputs and markets is considered to be an appropriate solution
Benefited Women Members: 206 women farmers

Impact:

  • The Women member through the Manidhi brand earns 15% higher than usual.(Eg Member who was earning Rs.30 per litre gets Rs.35 per litre through Manidhi)

Kalamkari Skill Training to Weavers - SIDBI

  • Kalamkari is the craft of painting and printing on fabrics. It derives its name from kalam or pen with which the patterns are traced. It is an art form that was developed both for decoration and religious ornamentation
  • Cross Training Arani Weavers with Kalamkari Painting Skills (Series I-Kalamkari from Kalahasti) Benefited Members: 90 Handcraft weavers

Impact:

  • The impact evaluation of the training program highlights its effectiveness in empowering women artisans. The program was strategically designed to benefit women more significantly than men, with a target of supporting over 50% of female participants. The evaluation results show that 60% of the beneficiaries were women, compared to 40% men. This gender distribution underscores the program's success in promoting women's empowerment by providing them with greater access to resources, skills, and opportunities within the artisan community
  • The impact evaluation of the training program reveals significant transformations among the participants based on their interest and ownership in the activities undertaken. Post-training, 60% of the beneficiaries, who were initially homemakers, transitioned into skilled handicraft artisans. Additionally, 30% of the participants, who were originally handloom weavers, gained new skills and evolved into handicraft entrepreneurs. The remaining 10% acquired specialized skills, becoming skilled laborers in the handicraft industry. This indicates the program's effectiveness in enhancing livelihoods and fostering entrepreneurship, particularly among women and weavers.
